Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify when it is safe for a pregnant athlete to participate in organized sports, and assess which sports are safe for competitive athletes

  • Recognize the responsibility as the athletic trainer to the athlete relating to their pregnancy and their privacy (if the athlete discloses to the coach)

  • Recall pregnancy safe exercises in collaboration with coaches for the athlete

  • Identify what signs and symptoms to look for as “danger signs” during activities for the pregnant athlete

  • Recall when to refer athletes for hormonal imbalances and cycle concerns
